Keepsake Box – Butterfly with color inlay

Butterfly totems represent transformation and grace. This beautiful tile is handmade by rolling out a slab of stoneware clay, and cutting to size. When leather hard, the tile is covered with three layers of black under glaze, waxed, then the image is carved and color inlay added. The end result resembles scratch board or wood cuts.
