Sterling silver heart clasp
Out On a Limb
Primitive Elegance jewelry features a ceramic pendant I have created by hand from clay, combined with gemstones, bone, glass or wood beads for a modern tribal look. The ceramic pendant is hand cut, fired, glazed, then fired again.
Finally the decal is applied & the piece is fired a third time to 1700 degrees so that the bird melts into the ivory glaze to become permanent.
Beliefs vary by tribe or culture, but the bird totem symbolizes freedom, strength, and harmony. I love to use gemstones for their beauty, luxurious feel, and healing properties. Pairing them with traditional Native American hairpipe sets the piece apart from other jewelry.
Hairpipe was used in trading
Hairpipe (tubular beads tapered at both ends) were originally made from conch shells and were highly valued. Today, genuine hairpipe is made from bone or horn and is used by Native Americans to create chokers, necklaces & striking breastplates.
The lava used here is known for its grounding qualities and the bone hairpipe is made from buffalo bone.
