Ready for Change, An Abstract Tribal Painting

©Carolyn Bernard Young, Choctaw artist, Awakening, 12 x 9 x .75″ acrylic on watercolor paper mounted on cradled wood panel.

Full of energy and movement, this painting was inspired by Awakening, a smaller painting that meant so much to me.

This one delves deeper into the new (to me) medium of painting. Notice the ghostly carved pottery in the lower right corner, receding from my daily life but still present. Feathers represent prayer as I look for guidance on this new path. The large focal image reminds me of a rocket ship, blasting into the future.

My goal is that every painting I create contain this much energy and life.

Created on a 16 x 20 canvas, using acrylic paints, inks, hand-carved stamps and collage. Multiple coats of non-yellowing, water resistant medium are applied to seal and protect the painting. It is framed simply in a black wooden frame.

If you prefer a smaller, less expensive version, I invite you to click here to view Awakening.
